“People look at food service workers as, for lack of a better term, nothing but the help, and they look down on them,” Booth says. Without them, “you would have to go home and cook your own chicken nuggets.” “What people forget is that during 2020,” Booth says, when everything was shut down for Covid-19, food service workers were considered “essential” along with first responders. ‘Succession’: Alexander Skarsgård on Whether Lukas Matsson Is Elon Musk That chair, too, she casually swats aside. When her assailant picks up another chair, she smiles and raises both hands in a gesture of clear incitement: bring it on. The viral moment comes at the 1:40 mark of the two-minute clip, when, during a brawl, a blonde woman in an apron behind the counter easily deflects a chair thrown at her, in the manner of a martial arts master bored by so obvious an attack. Yet this time, fight footage elevated one participant to mythic status, leading to an explosion of awestruck headlines, memes, fan art, and commendations from some surprising places. Specializing in hearty breakfasts, Waffle House is known for staying open during hurricanes, offering respite to weary travelers or intoxicated locals with nowhere else to eat in the wee hours of the morning - and bearing witness to the collapse of social order. The chaos documented was always bound to take its place in the extensive lore of a storied chain of 24-hour restaurants dotting the highways of the American South. Maybe that’s why, on the eve of 2023, we were so enamored of a Waffle House cook who stood tall in a melee with raging customers, as seen in video that revealed how harrowing a roadside diner’s overnight shift can be. It's my civic duty and on today's to-do list.Even without official New Year’s resolutions, it’s fair to say that most of us enter January with the urge to improve and take control of our lives. I think it's outside of the Austin city limits, so I guess I'm calling Travis County health, or I'll find out. Never ever ever again, and I'm calling the health department. I guess I must have been REALLY jonesin for a waffle, but in reality I think I was so in shock at the spectacle and just froze with my jaw on the dirty floor. I'm perplexed as to why we stayed, but we did. This was ground zero for biological warfare in the world of food service - a complete massacre of unsanitary practices. The egg smearing blob from the bottom of the plate was the cap to this horror show.performance art with food that will forever be burned into my memory. So that was the whole performance I guess. Either I saw the yellow egg blob jumping around showing its fangs and snapping at everyone, or I was just hallucinating. They were friendly folks, but not too up on their game of sanitation practices. THEN there was the server, and that's a whole added dimension. Didn't dare to venture into the bathroom - I can only imagine - no way, no way, noooooo way. Old spilled egg, batter and other food matter dripping down the sides of food preparation areas and the grill. Then there was the kitchen area - holy God almighty - literally looking like one of Jigsaw's industrial dungeons from a Saw horror flick. Then there were the tables, several of which were dirty and not cleaned off. I saw a sad old mop and bucket in the corner, but apparently it doesn't get any use and just huddles in the corner on standby for a day of recognition that will never come. so insanely dirty, I don't even know where to begin, but I'll try.įirst, the restaurant floor was looked like it hadn't been swept and mopped literally for weeks. I've been to other Waffle House establishments throughout the West, and I wanted to introduce a relative to their waffles, which are the best on the planet.
